Our Approach

Dr. Bunker’s approach to neuropsychological evaluation is both thorough and compassionate, grounded in a deep understanding of child development and brain-behavior relationships. She takes the time to truly understand the whole child, not just test scores, but how they think, learn, feel, and function in everyday life. Each evaluation is thoughtfully designed to provide a clear understanding of a child’s strengths, meaningful insight into areas of difficulty, and practical, individualized recommendations that support growth across home, school, and daily life. Dr. Bunker strives to create a supportive, collaborative environment where children feel at ease and families feel genuinely heard and guided throughout the process.

What to Expect?

A supportive, step-by-step process designed with your child in mind.

At Desert Bloom Pediatric Neuropsychology, we understand that seeking answers for your child, whether for attention concerns, learning differences, or emotional or behavioral challenges, can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make the evaluation process clear, supportive, and informative so you feel confident every step of the way.

We provide comprehensive pediatric neuropsychological, Autism, ADHD, learning disorder, developmental, and gifted evaluations for families in Peoria and the surrounding Phoenix area, with a thoughtful approach centered on your child’s unique needs.

Step 1: Initial Consultation

We begin with a parent intake appointment to better understand your child’s developmental history, current concerns, and your goals for the evaluation.

This conversation helps us:

  • Clarify your questions
  • Determine the most appropriate evaluation approach
  • Ensure your child’s needs are fully understood from the start

Step 2: Testing Sessions

Your child will participate in a series of structured, engaging activities designed to assess key areas of functioning, including:

  • Thinking and problem-solving
  • Attention and executive functioning
  • Learning and academic skills
  • Memory and language
  • Emotional and behavioral functioning

Testing is completed in a supportive, child-friendly environment and may take place over one or more sessions depending on your child’s needs.

Step 3: Questionnaires & Background Information

To develop a comprehensive understanding of your child, we gather information from multiple sources. This may include:

  • Parent questionnaires
  • Teacher input (when appropriate)
  • Review of school and/or medical records

This collaborative approach helps ensure that findings reflect your child’s functioning across settings.

Step 4: Comprehensive Report

All findings are carefully integrated into a detailed, personalized report that includes:

  • Your child’s strengths and areas of difficulty
  • Diagnostic impressions (when appropriate)
  • Clear, individualized recommendations

Recommendations are designed to support your child at home, in school, and through any additional services that may be helpful.

Step 5: Feedback Session

We meet with you to review results in a clear, supportive, and collaborative way.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Ask questions
  • Gain a deeper understanding of your child’s profile
  • Discuss next steps and recommendations

Our goal is for you to leave with clarity, direction, and confidence.

Our Goal

Our goal is not just to provide answers, but to help your child thrive, with a clear understanding of their strengths, challenges, and the supports that will help them grow.

Therapy Services

Individual Therapy

A supportive, individualized approach designed with your child in mind.

At Desert Bloom Pediatric Neuropsychology, we understand that support doesn’t end with answers, it continues through helping your child grow, build skills, and feel more confident in their daily life. In addition to comprehensive evaluations, we offer therapy services for children and adolescents in Peoria, Arizona and the surrounding Phoenix area.

Our therapy services are designed to meet your child where they are, whether they are navigating anxiety, attention challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, or stress related to school and daily life.

What Therapy May Support

Children and adolescents may benefit from therapy when experiencing:

  • Anxiety, worry, or overwhelm
  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges
  • Emotional regulation difficulties
  • Behavioral concerns at home or school
  • Low self-esteem or academic frustration
  • Life transitions or stressors

A Thoughtful, Integrated Approach

Our approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your child’s unique strengths and needs. When a child has completed a neuropsychological evaluation, therapy can be directly informed by those results, allowing for more targeted and meaningful support.

For families seeking therapy independently, we take the time to understand your child’s experiences and develop an individualized plan that supports growth across settings.

Parent involvement is an important part of the process. We provide guidance and practical strategies so you feel supported in helping your child outside of sessions as well.

How Therapy Fits Into Care

Therapy services may include:

  • Standalone therapy for children and adolescents
  • Therapy following a neuropsychological evaluation
  • Parent consultation and coaching

A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of how a child’s brain is functioning. It looks at areas such as thinking, learning, attention, memory, language, and emotional functioning to better understand a child’s strengths and challenges.

We provide evaluations for children and adolescents. We work with a wide range of concerns, including ADHD, learning differences, and children with complex medical or neurological conditions.

Families often seek an evaluation for concerns related to:

  • Attention and focus (ADHD)
  • Learning difficulties (reading, writing, math)
  • Executive functioning challenges
  • Autism or social differences
  • Emotional or behavioral concerns
  • Developmental delays
  • Medical or neurological conditions impacting learning and development

The process typically includes:

  1. Initial intake/clinical interview
  2. Comprehensive testing session(s)
  3. Questionnaires completed by parents and teachers
  4. Detailed written report
  5. Feedback session to review results and recommendations

Testing is usually completed over one or more sessions totaling several hours. The full process, from intake to feedback, typically takes a few weeks.

Yes. We specialize in working with children who have medically complex or neurological conditions, in addition to more common concerns like ADHD and learning differences.

We are a private-pay practice. Upon request, we can provide documentation (a superbill) that families may submit to their insurance for possible reimbursement.

Some portions of the evaluation process (such as intake and feedback sessions) may be completed via telehealth. Testing is typically conducted in person to ensure accuracy and validity. Therapy may be provided either virtually or in-person.

School-based evaluations are designed to determine eligibility for services. A private neuropsychological evaluation is more comprehensive and provides a deeper understanding of your child’s cognitive and emotional functioning, along with detailed, individualized recommendations.
